Today we arrive in Amsterdam, and our flight had flown from YYZ and took around 7 hours. Our first host Stephanie picked us up from the airport and brought us to her tiny and charming brick house in Uit Hoorn. Steph had an adorable dog Fritz and three soft and very friendly cats. So we got settled into our tiny room, and set off to explore beautiful Amsterdam. Our location was about 1 hour from the city centre, so it was a bit of a trek, but a nice place to stay and see the flemish country side.
In Amsterdam, everyone travels by bike and it can sometimes be more dangerous then cars. This is because, they basically take up most of the sidewalk areas, and they pop out quickly from random directions unexpected. I had some scary encounters, almost being hit inches away. Luckily I survived, and enjoyed many excellent sceneries and adventures.
One thing we did was a hop-on-hop-off boat cruise and bus tour. This gave us a great overview of the entire city by land and water. I highly recommend trying this experience. Later in the afternoon, we decided to go to the Vondel Park, which was surrounded by greenery and many people, lying on picnic blankets and enjoying the fantastic weather.
